The graphs above are from a Gallup poll conducted in 34 African countries in 2011. As one can tell from the most basic cursory analysis, the Angolan leadership has the worst approval rate in the continent. As astounding 78% of those surveyed disapprove of the country’s president, while only 16% approve; more tellingly, unlike the vast majority of the continent, Angolans also heavily disprove of the country’s entire governmental leadership, with only 16% saying they approve. And yet people wonder why the youth protests, or why Angolans complain about widespread human rights violations, or why the government responds with violence and repression to any challenge to its dictatorial rule…
